LOS ANGELES — A young man has pleaded no contest to murder and DUI charges stemming from a crash in Northridge that killed an off-duty Los Angeles police officer and a man preparing to join the LAPD academy, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday.

Authorities say the boy was riding in the back seat when his father’s car crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle. He was identified Tuesday.

The Napa County DA said a man faces murder charges after his son died in a suspected DUI crash on July 18. Less than a week ago, the DA filed murder charges in a separate, similar case, in which two children died in a suspected DUI crash.
