"The enemy once again used its drones against Kyiv overnight!" Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv's military administration, said on the Telegram messaging app. "Russian drones entered the capital of Ukraine in several waves and from different directions."

The Ukrainian military shot down 56 out of at least 87 drones launched by Russia over various regions of the country, the air force said.

Russia launched several waves of air strikes on Ukraine targeting the capital and Odesa in the early hours of Sunday morning. The eastern half of Ukraine was kept under air raid alert for more than five hours early on Sunday due to the attack, Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv’s military administration said.

"The local population doesn't understand why they are being hit (by Russian forces) because the (Ukrainian) military is not even nearby," Vadym Mysnyk, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian military's Operational Tactical Group Siversk,

During the night of October 5th to 6th, Russian forces launched an attack on Ukraine using 87 Shahed drones. Ukrainian defence was highly effective, intercepting most of these unmanned aerial vehicles.
