Demarcus Robinson, San Francisco 49ers and Kyle Shanahan

NFL insider Dianna Russini reported the San Francisco 49ers are “making calls” in pursuit of a trade for a wide receiver.
Seeing as the Niners can’t out and trade for Packers’ now-cornerback Bo Melton (yes, they changed his position and it’s apparently going well), there are three names I suspect are at the top of the 49ers’ attainable wishlist:
On Wednesday, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan told KNBR radio that Robinson has been suspended for the first three games of the 2025 NFL season for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Robinson signed a two-year, $9.5 million contract with the 49ers back in March after a two-year stint with the NFC West rival Los Angeles Rams. In his eight-year NFL career, which also included stops with the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens, Robinson has averaged 31 catches, 376 yards, and three touchdowns per season.
Can Brock Purdy and San Francisco’s veteran leadership extend the 49ers’ window over five years?
Locked into long-term contracts, Brock Purdy, Kyle Shanahan, and John Lynch give the 49ers stability, but their trajectory depends on developing young talent around an aging core and maintaining championship-level coaching.
San Francisco quarterback Mac Jones sustained a knee sprain in the 49ers’ second preseason game on Saturday and won’t be available when the NFL team closes its preseason schedule on Saturday.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is likely itching to get back on the field after suffering a season-ending injury in Week 7 last season, but he and the team may have broken an NFL rule as he works his way back from a torn ACL and MCL.
Martin started the preseason shaky and looked good later in the second preseason game. However, he is a third-round pick, and not only is he not pushing Dee Winters, you could argue Luke Gifford and Tatum Bethune are closer to Martin than Martin is to Winters.
