Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said the two rounds of unidentified ballistic missiles fired by North Korea into the open waters of the Sea of Japan on Wednesday were a threat to the region.
Japan assesses that North Korea’s sixth nuclear test, conducted in September of last year, had an estimated yield of 160 kilotons – its largest yielding test to date.
"North Korea's series of actions, including its repeated ballistic missile launches, threaten the peace and security of Japan, the region, and the international community," the ministry said.
Diplomats from the United States, Japan and South Korea reaffirmed their commitment on Wednesday to working together in response to any threat from North Korea, including a possible new nuclear test.
