T he Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped into negative territory while a steeper fall for the Nasdaq put it below a key level in afternoon trade Wednesday. Several retail stocks moved on earnings, and artificial intelligence software maker Palantir Technologies PLTR was driving toward its sixth straight loss on the stock market today.

Stock futures are pointing to a slightly lower open for major indexes on Wednesday as investors respond to a slew of earnings reports from retailers and brace for a big speech later in the week by Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.

U.S. stocks finished mostly lower on Tuesday, after a selloff in megacap technology names weighed on the three major indexes ahead of the Federal Reserve’s annual economic symposium in Jackson Hole, Wyo.

The Dow Jones, Nasdaq and S&P 500 indexes slip. Amazon and Meta fell on the stock market today. Solar stocks shined on positive news.

The Nasdaq fell as megacaps lost after having rallied for much of the year. Nvidia fell 3.5%, the biggest drop in nearly four months.

A steep slide in shares of semiconductor companies was dragging on the Nasdaq Composite on Tuesday afternoon, putting the tech-heavy index on track for a rare underperformance versus the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
