Chargers Wire on MSNWill Chargers' Justin Herbert play vs. 49ers? Jim Harbaugh reveals plans at QB
Head coach Jim Harbaugh revealed the Chargers ' plans at quarterback in the preseason finale against the 49ers this Saturday.
The Chargers rookie undrafted free agent capped off camp with an interception on 11-on-11 drills as he undercut a pass thrown by Uiagalelei over the middle of the field. Reed was among the stars of camp early on, including a pick 6 and consecutive days with interceptions.
Obviously, 49ers fans will root for 49ers quarterbacks, but Brock Purdy and Mac Jones won't play. Instead, the 49ers will trot out Carter Bradley and Nate Sudfeld -- two backups who almost certainly won't make the 53-man roster.

But even with Harbaugh's backing, the Chargers have Taylor Heinicke on the roster. Heinicke has been one of the league's better backup quarterbacks over the last several years. Based on what we had seen from Lance in his first three seasons in the league, he didn't seem to present much of a threat to Heinicke's status.
"The Chargers rotated their second-team offensive line heavily in Monday’s practice. Quarterback Trey Lance was first up with the second team, followed by Taylor Heinicke. The Chargers featured a different offensive line combination for each of four straight reps once the second team offense took the field."
