This year's Labor Day falls on Monday, Sept. 1, 2025, with the long three-day weekend starting off on Friday, Aug. 29. Labor Day weekend is celebrated with parades, backyard barbecues, festivals and last-minute back to school shopping. It is also the end of the beach season and what is considered the end of summer.

President Grover Cleveland signed a law in 1894 that made it a national holiday. The National Constitution Center said the first Labor Day celebration focused on parades, and the holiday has become publicly perceived as the end of the summer season.
