NASCAR will have a new street race in San Diego, while North Wilkesboro and Chicagoland host points races for the first time in years

San Diego is about as military as a military town can get. From the Naval Aviators on Coronado’s North Island, to the SEALs on the Silver Strand, to the home of the largest naval fleet in the world, and of course, those crazy Marines, NASCAR found a perfect spot to run a race while honoring the military.

Next year will be one of the biggest, if not the biggest, in NASCAR history, as well as for the U.S. and its military. Here's why.

NASCAR announced Wednesday that the sport will race in San Diego, Calif. in 2026 with a new street course race weekend at Naval Base Coronado. NASCAR's San Diego Weekend, set for June 19-21 of next year, will be the first NASCAR event on an active military base and feature the NASCAR Cup Series, Xfinity Series and Craftsman Truck Series.

NASCAR will hold a street race on Naval Base Coronado in Southern California next June as a replacement for its downtown Chicago event that ran the past three years.

NASCAR has landed on a unique way to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States Navy — racing on a naval base.

NASCAR announced Thursday that defense products company Anduril will be the presenting sponsor of the inaugural weekend in San Diego as well as the entitlement sponsor of the Cup Series race.

It’s expected that the 2026 NASCAR schedule will come this week. However, we have come to know of some changes ahead of time, from the addition of the San Diego street course to Homestead-Miami Speedway hosting championship weekend.
