Eddie Garcia, the former Dallas police chief, has been named the new chief of the Fort Worth Police Department, City Manager Jay Chapa announced Thursday afternoon.

After leading police departments in California and Dallas, Eddie Garcia is stepping into a new role as Fort Worth’s police chief. Known for his results-driven leadership, Garcia left a legacy in Dallas where crime rates dropped and officer morale improved during his tenure.

Dallas’ former police chief is now the top cop in Fort Worth. “The 28th police chief for the Fort Worth Police Department will be Eddie Garcia,” Fort Worth City Manager Jesus “Jay” Chapa announced via a news release Thursday afternoon.
