Chicago Bears GM Ryan Poles explained why he decided to lock up Tyson Bagent to a multi-year contract extension.

Chicago Bears backup quarterback Tyson Bagent signed a two-year contract extension on Wednesday that spans through the 2027 season.

“To think about that point until now, it’s really too much to think about,” Bagent said.

Defensive back Terell Smith will miss the season with an injury, Bears head coach Ben Johnson said on Wednesday afternoon.

Running back Royce Freeman is the newest member of the Bears. The Bears announced Freeman's signing on Wednesday. Running back Deion Hankins was placed on injured reserve in a corresponding move. Freeman last saw regular season action with the Rams in 2023 when he ran 77 times for 319 yards and two touchdowns in 14 games.

The Bears will play their starters in the preseason finale Friday night against the Chiefs. Bears coach Ben Johnson told Kay Adams on Up & Adams that Caleb Williams and the rest of the team's healthy starters will play.

The Chicago Bears blew out the Buffalo Bills, 38-0, in their second preseason game, where starters and reserves had a chance to shine at Soldier Field.

Mahomes didn’t play in either of the Chiefs’ first two preseason games.
