The Beacon fire was reported near Alcott Place and Ridgeway Avenue around 3:30 p.m., according to Watch Duty, a nonprofit that tracks wildfires. At around 5:30 p.m., the Orange County Fire Authority announced that forward progress was stopped.

A slow-burning vegetation blaze known as the Beacon fire started shortly after 3:30 p.m. in the city of Laguna Niguel.

Orange County firefighters rushed to a Laguna Niguel neighborhood to extinguish flames burning near homes Wednesday afternoon. The brush fire started on the hillside near Ridgeway Avenue and Alcott Place at around 3:30 p.m. Crews quickly doused the flames as the fire burned vegetation dangerously close to several homes.
