🫀✍️📚Free Wall Rupture after Myocardial Infarction (MI) ❓What it is • A mechanical complication of acute MI, where the infarcted myocardium ruptures, most often in the left ventricular (LV) free wall. • This causes hemopericardium → rapid accumulation of blood in the pericardial sac → cardiac tamponade → sudden death (if not immediately treated). ⏳Timing • Classically occurs within 3–7 days post-MI (weakened necrotic myocardium before fibrosis develops). • Can occasionally occur up to 2 weeks.
